Zandronum & Brutal Doom

Zandronum is the latest incarnation of the original Doom Engine.

Brutal Doom is a mod that increases carnage and gives the game some new edge.

Player limit 32 (Technology limit 64, may be raised to this on demand)

The dedicated server hosting the game is running Zandronum version 3.0.1, multiple instances.

Used WADs are Doom2 IWAD and supplemental wads Brutalv21.wad. (for Invasion skulltag_data.wad and skulltag_actors.wad also.) WADs are stored on . Players are advised to use Doomseeker to join the game, as the integrated wwwseeker should download the wads automatically.

This guide instructs you how to install Zandronum/BrutalDoom server on Debian/Wheezy.

Both Zandronum and Brutal Doom are freely available. The game requires original Doom WADs, but those are easy enough to find; Doom is on sale in Steam.

  • Add Zandronum repository to your system:

echo deb stable multiverse > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/zandronum.list

  • Add Zandronum repo key:

wget -O - | sudo apt-key add -

  • Install server:

aptitude update
aptitude install zandronum-server
